How To Invest In SIP First Time?
To invest money in SIP, you must have a demat account. After opening a demat account with the broker, you will have to get the KYC verification of the document done. Then select the right mutual fund. After this you can start investing in SIP.
Below we have given some simple steps through which you can easily invest in SIP, let’s know.

(1) Open a demat account online to invest in SIP
The first step to invest in SIP is to open a demat account. You can easily open a demat account with any discount broker.
Apps like
(1) Angel Broking
(2) Upstox
(3) Zerodha
(4) Groww
After opening your demat account with any one of these brokers, you will be able to make SIP investments through the same.
(2) Select a mutual fund to invest in SIP
After opening a demat account, the second step is to choose the right mutual fund. This is the most important step of investing money in SIP because if you select the right mutual fund, then you can get tremendous returns on your investment in future.
But if you invest money in a wrong mutual fund without thinking, then instead of increasing your money, it can also be lost. Therefore, follow all the steps given below one by one.
- To invest in SIP, click on Mutual Funds inside the broker app.
- On the next page, you will see different mutual funds.
- However, you have to select the right fund according to your risk.
- If you do not want to take any risk at all, then invest SIP in large cap mutual funds.
- you want to get quick returns by taking a little risk, then invest SIP in small cap mutual funds.
- If you want to diversify your investment in different sectors instead of a single sector, then invest SIP in ‘Diversified Mutual Fund’ mutual fund.
- This means that you can choose funds of Top Rated, High Return, Low Risk etc. categories according to your risk.
(3) Select the time period for SIP investment
By now you have selected the right mutual fund for SIP investment which is a very important step.
On the next page you have to select the time period for which you want to invest in SIP.
For example:
If a person A invests Rs 5000 every month in SIP for 10 years and another person B invests Rs 5000 every month in SIP for 20 years. Both these persons invest their money in the same mutual fund.
So in this case you must be thinking that the second person B will have twice the money than the first person after 20 years.
“This is the magic of compounding” because in this you get returns on top of your returns.
